HEROES YOUTH PROGRAM

The C-STAHR HEROES Youth Program is an opportunity for middle- and high-school youth in Denver/Aurora to:

  • Learn more about health topics and advocacy

  • Discover health professions

  • Get help with job applications, resumes, and job skills

  • Connect with community leaders and mentors

CURRICULUM INITIATIVES

C-STAHR’s curriculum initiatives, launched in 2016, focused on working with community members to help inform changes in medical education at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. The goal of these efforts is to help reduce healthcare racism that is perpetuated through medical education systems. During our first phase, community focus groups were held to review curricular materials to identify potential sources of bias.

INTERVENTION TASK FORCE

Based on focus group data, identified patient-provider communication as an area to reduce bias and misperception. Developed a clinic-based tool with community members to empower patients and improve communication. The tool was adopted by Salud clinic after development.
